Another tough couple weeks for Team New England and the US economy (for that matter) which, as of this week, is now officially in a recession. Hello Team New Englanders! Every Monday we will assess the team's overall impact and our ranking in relation to the rest of the Kiva community. As of 12 AM on 11/17/08 this is how things stand:

The last two weeks has seen a slow, but steady stream of loans initiated by Team New England. It seems the economic slowdown is starting to assert itself in all facets of the economy including philanthropy as even with a slowed lending pace the team has maintained its position in nearly all available metrics. Unfortunately all indications point to further deterioration of world markets and the sad reality is when there is a slowdown of this magnitude it is always the least developed markets that are hurt the worst. With that in mind we must remember that with each loan we are not only helping individuals achieve their goals, but in many cases creating jobs in places that need them most. One loan can impact far more than the lone individual on the receiving end, it can benefit an entire community.

After having what was arguably the best week in Team New England's young existence one week earlier, this week proved to be considerably slower. I suppose if you average the two weeks together however, the team is executing on its normal trend line. Here's to what should prove to be an exciting week on a multitude of levels. Arguably the best week yet for Team New England. This past week not only did the team pass the 100 loans mark, but later in the week it also surpassed $3000 level in total money loaned. Another significant development was the largest one week jump in membership with 7 new members joining the fold. With the team now roughly 30% larger than it was only one week earlier hopefully in time it will enable us to grow our overall impact and take the team to the next level. Happy Lending everyone!

100 Loans and Counting...
Congratulations to everyone on Team New England for smashing through the 100 loans plateau! This is a tremendous accomplishment for the team and it should be noted that fewer than 75 Kiva teams have achieved this same feat. No question Team New England has made a significant impact and with the team continuing to grow hopefully it can celebrate reaching the next plateau in no time. Kiva's 3 Year Birthday Bash in Boston
...well, Cambridge anyway. That's right, on Wednesday Kiva turns 3 and to celebrate they are hosting happy hour parties in major cities around the country. If you are interested in attending the event it begins at 9pm at Tommy Doyles (map) in the Harvard Square area. As of last check the Facebook page shows 30+ people have RSVP'd so there will definitely be a good turn out. For more details check out the invite on Kiva's page linked here. If you are in the area stop on in and grab yourself a drink and celebrate with your fellow lenders.

$1000 Loaned!
Congratulations Team New England! We have reached the $1000 loaned plateau in less than three weeks and continue to grow! Let's set a goal of breaking through the $2000 level even faster. Be sure to tell your friends and family about Kiva and if they are interested invite them to join our efforts of empowering individuals around the globe. Welcome
Welcome everyone to the official Kiva Team New England website.
Going forward this will be the place to find updates concerning the progress of the team, promote loans or exchange stories and ideas. We encourage anyone who visits this site and is interested in joining our pursuit of empowering people around the world to join us and tell their friends and family. Whether you currently reside in the northeast, are a displaced New Englander or simply find yourself associating with the region everyone is welcome!
Once we get things up and running we will hopefully be adding more features to this site including message boards, various metrics to track team progress & perhaps a central account members can opt into contributing to in order for the team to fully finance a loan on our own (all accounting will be fully transparent via Google Docs and all money loaned out once the team decides upon a loan). We'll just have to see how things progress.
